Men's Soccer Falls in Exhibition to NCAA Division I UAB

In a three period exhibition, AUM fell 4-0 to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team fell 4-0 in an exhibition matchup to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Tuesday night, in which both teams played in three 30 minute periods.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore Alexandro Costa led the way for the Warhawks with two shots and one on goal.
• Freshman Asher Gipner also added two shots with one on goal for AUM.
• Freshmen Chandler Thomason and Samuel McIntosh each added a shot, with junior Christian Young tallying the final shot.
• Freshman keeper Jacob Bergengren picked up a game-high four saves, while only conceding one goal.
• Massimo Ferrin, Tarnue Tyler, Ryan Sullivan and Chase Rushing each scored a goal for the Blazeres. Ferrin also added an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•UAB struck first with just five minutes remaining in the first of three 30 minute periods played tonight. Tyler scored on a cross from Ferrin to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
• Four minutes later, Ferrin scored with an assist from Dajani to put UAB up 2-0 heading into the second period.  
• The Blazers added their third goal from Rushing three minutes into the second period.
• Costa was the first Warhawk to put a shot on frame in the 43rd minute, right after shots from McIntosh and Young.
• UAB added its final goal of the match in the 54th minute from Sullivan who was assisted by Mora and Makinde.
• Gipner added the final shot on frame for the Warhawks in the 87th minute, but UAB finished on top 4-0 in the exhibition.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Warhawks tied the Blazers 4-4 in shots during the second period, but UAB edged out AUM 17-7 in total shots.
• AUM picked up a save in every period of the match for a 6-2 advantage over UAB.
• AUM added its only corner kick of the night in the third period, but UAB tallied eight during the exhibition.
• Neither team scored in the third and final period. 

UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee to face Lynn University Thursday, Sep. 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
