Men’s Soccer Falls to Delta State on the Road

CLEVELAND, Miss. ----- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team finished its road trip to Mississippi with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Gulf South Conference member Delta State, Sunday afternoon.
 
NOTES
• AUM fell to 2-2, while DSU improved to 2-1.  


STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman Alexis Arriaga and senior Alan Harwell led the way for the Warhawks with both players picking up two shots, and connecting with one each on frame.
• Freshman Simon Van Rheeden added a shot of his own that was on goal.
• Freshmen Chandler Thomason and Braxton Wright additionally added a shot on frame.
• Ricardo Filho scored the first goal for the Statesmen, which was also his fourth of the season, and Peyton Marter added two assists for Delta State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Delta State quickly jumped out to an early lead with Filho picking up his fourth goal of the season on an assist from Fernandez just five minutes into the game.
• AUM tallied four shots during the first half, with Delta State only adding one more. However, the Warhawks forced three saves in the first 45 minutes.
• Two minutes after the break, Aur scored for the Statesmen on a corner from Hogg.
• AUM added five additional shots in the second half, with two of forcing a save from Delta State's keeper.

• The Warhawks were unable to score, as Delta State added three more goals before the final whistle for a 5-0 win over AUM.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with 9 shots, and put five on frame. Delta State ended the game with 13 shots, and put eight on frame.
• AUM finished with three saves, while Mississippi College tallied five.  

• Delta State led AUM in corner kicks 5-2.

QUOTING THE COACH
• "We know the process of rebuilding a team, and today's game showed the ups and downs that having such a young squad can have," head coach Wulf Koch stated. "We could have worked much harder from start to finish today, and will have to move forward with more effort."
 
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when the team will play its home opener against Clayton State University, under the lights, at 7 p.m.
