Men’s Soccer To Face Statesmen And Choctaws

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer squad will travel to Delta State University and Mississippi College this weekend, as the Warhawks will play the Statesmen on Friday before taking on the Choctaws on Sunday in Gulf South Conference action.

About the Warhawks
AUM enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-13 and a mark of 1-6 in GSC play. The Warhawks are coming off of a 4-2 victory over league foe Shorter this past Sunday. AUM scored a season-high four goals in the contest against the Hawks, with sophomore forward Tiuri Schieving tallying a pair of goals in the contest.
 
Schieving leads the team in goals with three and points with six. Sophomore forward Jesus Escalera leads the team in assists with three while defender Vilhjalmur Runarsson leads the team in shots with 15.
 
The Warhawks defeated Mississippi College last season 4-3 on Sept. 9, before falling to Delta State 5-0 on Sept. 11. The victory over Mississippi College was the second win for the AUM men's soccer squad at the NCAA Division II level, having earned their first DII victory over Illinois-Springfield one week earlier.
 
About the Statesmen
Delta State is currently 2-11-1 on the year with a 0-9 mark in GSC play. The Statesmen have dropped nine contests in a row and are coming off of a 2-1 loss to Mississippi College on Sunday.
 
Senior forward Brock Hollier leads the team in goals with two and is tied with teammate Myron Duffy for the team lead in points with four. Duffy has recorded a goal and two assists on the season.
 
About the Choctaws
Mississippi College is currently receiving votes for the coaches poll with an overall record of 9-2-2 and a league mark of 6-2-1. The Choctaws are currently tied for second in the league standings and are coming off of a 2-1 victory over Delta State on Sunday.
 
The Choctaws have outscored opponents 24-13 on the season, out-shooting opponents 230-127 in 2017. Individually senior forward Jacob Farthing leads the team in points with 13 off of four goals and five assists. Horacio Gutierrez, Jr. has recorded a team-best five goals on the season with an assist for a point total of 11.
 
Six different Choctaws have scored multiple goals this season for MC. The Choctaws will host GSC foe Montevallo on Friday afternoon before welcoming AUM to their campus on Sunday.
 
Up Next
The Warhawks will travel to West Florida on Thursday, Oct. 26, for their penultimate game of the season.
 Game time is set for 6 p.m. on the campus of the Argonauts.
