YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. ------ The Auburn Montgomery softball split Sunday afternoon's twin bill against Georgia College on the final day of the Young Harris Tournament. Freshman
Jaycie Walker provided a walk-off double to win 5-4 in game one, but Georgia College responded with a 4-3 walk-off win in game two.
NOTES
• The Warhawks moved to 8-7 on the year.
• The Bobcats improved to 7-9 on the season.
• The Warhawks as a team set a season-high four doubles in game one of the doubleheader.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Walker led the way offensively for the Warhawks with a team-high five hits on the day. She added a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles and an RBI in game one, and a 2-for-4 showing with a run scored in game two. She currently leads the team with four doubles.
• Senior
Sydney Dishman added a pair of RBIs in the first game, and tallied one in game two. She currently leads the team with 14 RBIs.
• Sophomore
Kaylin Finch picked up three hits on the day, and is currently tied with Walker for a team-leading 17 hits.
• Senior
Rachel Ragland improved to 5-3 on the year with a win in game one. She allowed only three earned runs with six strikeouts and only one walk. She stranded six Bobcats on the base paths.
• Holland Coursey led the way for Georgia College with a three hit day, which included a double and a run scored.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless first, Georgia College got on the board first in the top of the second inning with two runs on three hits for an early 2-0 lead.
• AUM picked up a pair of hits in the home half of the inning, but were unable to score. Georgia College added to its lead in the top of the third on a fielding error to make the score 3-0 heading to the fourth.
• Trailing 3-0, AUM tallied its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Persinger double to left that plated Hendrix making the score 3-1.
• AUM took the lead 4-3 with a five hit bottom of the fifth. A Dishman double plated Pinholster and Schmidt, and a wild pitch allowed Walker to score.
• Georgia College tied the game in the top of the sixth on an infield single to second that plated Lester.
• Heading to the bottom of the seventh, the game remained tied 4-4. Pinholster reached on a catcher's interference, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Dishman. Walker ended the game on a double down the right field line to score Pinholster, which gave the Warhawks the 5-4 walk-off victory.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM got on the board first in the opening inning after an error and a passed ball put Pinholster on third. Dishman successfully got down a squeeze bunt to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead after one inning in the books.
• Georgia College tallied its first run of the game in the bottom of the second on a Rice single to center that plated Lester to tie the game at 1.
• Georgia College took the lead in the bottom of the third after a double from Coursey was followed by a single from Coy to give the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage heading to the fourth. Â
• AUM tallied another run on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Pinholster that scored Krueger to tie the game back at 2.
• AUM took back the lead in the top of the fifth on a single to left from Finch that plated Walker. Neither team scored in the sixth, which gave the Warhawks a 3-2 advantage heading to the final frame. Â
• Georgia College tied the game in the bottom of the seventh after a one out single to center from Flanders plated Bernstein. The Bobcats scored the final run of the game on a bases loaded walk to take the 4-3 victory in game two.
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, February 28, when they host the University of West Alabama for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
