MONTEVALLO, Ala. ------ Despite hitting six home runs in the twin bill, the Auburn Montgomery softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Montevallo Thursday, falling in the opener 10-5, before coming up short in the nightcap 5-4 in eight innings.

• The Warhawks fell to 16-15 on the season.
• The Falcons improved to 15-14 overall.
GAME 1 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Kalee Sparks led the Warhawks at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with her first home run, two RBIs and a run scored.
•
Kaylin Finch was 1-for-4 with a solo home run. The homer was her fourth of the season, matching
Sydney Dishman for the team lead.
•
Rose Schmidt connected on her first home run of the season, a solo shot, for her lone hit of the contest.
•
Abby Krueger was 1-for-3 with a double.
•
Taylor Tiffany tossed five innings of relief in the circle, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out seven.
• Celestia Davila had a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBIs to lead the Falcons.
• Kelsey Vining had three hits and walked for Montevallo. She drove in a run and scored another.
• Mariel Bertossi was 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.
• Jocelyn Rivera (8-4) earned the victory in the circle, tossing five innings, despite allowing five earned runs and six hits.
• Abbey Pratt tossed two scoreless innings of relief to collect her second save of the season.
GAME 1 HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sparks gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a RBI single, scoring
Parker Pinholster.
• The Falcons erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the frame off AUM starter
Rachel Ragland (8-6). Montevallo used four hits and took advantage of a Warhawk error, with the big blow being a two-run double by Davila. Vining, Lady Sarah Federico, Holly LaForce and Haley Barnette also picked up RBIs.
• AUM cut the margin to 7-2 with a run in the second inning, when Pinholster plated
Amy Persinger with a run-scoring single.
• The Warhawks chipped two more runs off the deficit in the third inning, when Sparks and Schmidt each went deep.
• Bertossi upped the Montevallo advantage to 8-4 with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
• Finch pulled the Warhawks to within three runs, 8-5, with home run in the fifth inning.
• The Falcons provided the final margin with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
GAME 2 STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Jaycie Walker was 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs batted in and a run scored.
• Pinholster reached base three times, finishing 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks. She also added her 31st stolen base of the season.
•
Sarah Angulo tallied her second home run of the season.
• Schmidt recorded a double and a walk, finishing 1-for-3 in the contest.
• Finch had a pair of hits in the loss.
•
Chanel Newcomer (4-5) scattered 10 hits, walked four and struck out four in the tough-luck loss.
• Rivera allowed just two hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings of relief to improve to 9-4 on the year. Rivera earned the win in both games of the doubleheader.
• Barnette finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and a run scored to lead Montevallo.
• Vining and Brianna Stella also had two hits each.
GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks took control of the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Walker, her fourth of the season. The long ball scored Dishman, who reached on an infield single.
• Pinholster extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run to lead off the third inning.
• The Falcons got on the board in the fourth inning with two runs after Dylan Bailey and Lauren Van Steenwyk hit solo home runs and pulled Montevallo to within 3-2.
• Angulo connected on her second home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning, proving an insurance run for the Warhawks and giving them a 4-2 lead.
• Barnette tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run homer. After retiring the first two hitters of the inning, Newcomer walked Marisa Sosa, before Barnette's long ball.
• In the seventh inning, the Warhawks stranded the bases loaded and the Falcons left a pair of runners on, as the two teams went to extra innings.
• Barnette delivered the game winner with a RBI double in the eighth. Davila began the inning on second base as part of the international tie-break format and moved to third on a groundout. Barnette followed with the two-out game-winning hit.
UP NEXT
• The Warhawks will return to action on Wednesday, March 29, when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., to take on future Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
