Men’s Soccer Drops Home Match To West Alabama, 3-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team hosted the University of West Alabama on Friday evening in a Gulf South Conference match, surrendering an early goal with two more scores for the visitors in the second half of a 3-0 decision at the AUM Soccer Complex.
 
NOTES
• AUM drops to 0-9 on the season, 0-2 in GSC action.
• West Alabama improves to 6-2, 2-1 in league play.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore defender Vilhjalmur Runarsson paced the AUM offense with four shots, three landing on target.
• Senior forward Simon Van Rheeden was the only other Warhawk to land a shot on goal, with his lone attempt on the night forcing a save.
• Senior forward Christian Young took a pair of shots while sophomore midfielder Alexis Arriaga and freshman defender Alexander Wagner each recorded one.
• Senior goalkeeper Stephen Ingram stopped three shots.
• Brandon Ali led West Alabama with two goals, while Harrison Roberts contributing one goal and Liam Ireland, Rakim Ali and Jean-Baptis Meyniel all logging assists
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• West Alabama took the early lead with a goal 8:31 into play as Roberts got a pass from Ireland and beat AUM's keeper to his right for the lone goal of the half.
• After nearly a hour of play without either side scoring a goal, UWA's Ali found the back of the net twice in a two-minute span with one coming at the 65:54 mark and the second coming 67:09 into the contest.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• AUM finished the match with nine shots, four on goal, versus 12 shots with six on target for West Alabama.
• UWA held a slim 4-3 advantage in saves.
• AUM had 14 fouls and three yellow cards while the Tigers had 13 fouls with a pair of cautions.

The Warhawks return to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 1, when they host the University of Alabama in Huntsville at 3:30 p.m.
