Men’s Soccer Earns Point with 0-0 Draw Against Mississippi College

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team fought tooth-and-nail with Mississippi College on Sunday, Oct. 21 in Gulf South Conference action, while ultimately earning a point as a result of their 0-0 draw with the Choctaws.

Notes
- With the draw AUM's record moves to 3-10-2 overall, and 2-5-2 in GSC action.
- Sunday's contest marked for the Warhawk's-second consecutive GSC overtime match, and their fifth of 2018.
- The Warhawks hold a record of 2-1-2 in overtime matches on the year.

Standout Performers
- In goal, Alexander Kraus (2-9-2) notched his first colligate shutout in the draw. The freshman keeper grabbed 10 saves on the afternoon, with several big stops down the stretch for AUM to keep the game tied.
- Alexis Arriaga and Phillip Spickenbaum both took four shots in the match.
- Tate Dean and Austin Sun Chee Fore both logged a shot on goal for AUM, while Asher Gipner, Raphael Meyerhoff and Sverrir Smarason all recorded at least one shot in the contest.

How it Happened
- Both teams used the first half as an opportunity to fill each other out, as neither team tallied their highest period shot total in half number one.
- AUM saw one of their better scoring looks of half number two come in the 71st minute, as Arriaga struck a free kick from just outside of the box that clanked off of the crossbar.
- The Warhawks were able to fend off several strong attacks from MC in the second period, including a diving fingertip save by Kraus in the 74th minute to keep the match scoreless.
- After a scoreless first overtime period, AUM began to apply the pressure offensively in overtime period number two, firing off seven shots, with several near misses.
- A strong second overtime period was not enough, however, as the 0-0 score would hold for the draw.

Quoting the Coach
"We really put the hammer down in the second overtime period, and deserved to win as a result of that effort," Head Coach Wulf Koch said. "Kraus once again was huge for us in goal. Overall, though, this was a fair result. We are definitely on the right path to becoming competitive in the GSC."

Inside The Boxscore
- AUM took 14 shots on the day, with two on frame.
- The Warhawks outshot AUM 7-4 in overtime, with all seven of their shots coming in the second overtime period.

Up Next
- The Warhawks will return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 26 when they host Union University in GSC play. Kickoff from the AUM Soccer Complex is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
