PENSACOLA, Fla. – Sophomore pitcher Chanel Newcomer allowed only three hits while striking out a career-best 11 batters against #17 West Florida on Monday afternoon, as the Auburn Montgomery softball team earned a 6-0 victory over the Argonauts at the UWF Softball Complex in Gulf South Conference action.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 23-14 on the year with a 14-13 mark in the GSC.
• UWF falls to 24-14 overall and 15-10 in the league.
• The Warhawks salvage the series after falling to the Argos twice on Sunday.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Newcomer took a no-hitter into the fourth inning before it was broken up by UWF. She walked one batter and hit another over 7.0 innings of work to secure the victory for AUM.
• Sophomore Jaycie Walker launched her fifth home run of the season while going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a run batted in.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM struck first in the contest when catcher Abby Krueger hit her first career home run, a solo shot to centerfield to give the Warhawks a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third.
• After a scoreless inning between the two squads, AUM would plate four runs in the top of the fifth. Parker Pinholster scored on an error that allowed Michaelyn Foster to reach base, then Foster scored on a sacrifice bunt by Hannah Dailey after Foster had reached third. A single by Kalee Sparks with runners at second and third scored another run followed by a Gracie Harris single that plated Dailey.
• Walker would hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the top of the seventh to give the Warhawks a 6-0 lead.   
• UWF would be unable to plate a run in the final frame to give AUM the 6-0 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE  
• AUM scored six runs on five hits with no errors.
• UWF scored no runs on three hits with four errors.
• Newcomer improved to 12-6 with the victory.
• Grace Gilbert (9-3) was credited with the loss for the Argonauts, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits in 4.1 innings of work.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will play their last non-conference of the season when they hit the road to take on Albany State on Wednesday in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m.
