MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Department of Athletics has announced the addition of former Warhawk student-athlete Jacob Horton as Assistant Sports Information Director on Monday.

"I can't thank the AUM athletic department and athletic communications office enough for providing me with this opportunity," said Horton "To be able to come back and work at my alma mater is nothing short of a dream come true. I feel like there's going to be a lot exciting things happening within AUM athletics in the near future, and I'm really looking forward to being apart of it."

Horton comes to AUM from the Atlantic Sun Conference where he has been serving as a Media Relations Assistant for the past month. Prior to his arrival with the ASUN he worked for Gulf South Conference member Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., where he served two seasons as the Choctaws' Sports Information Graduate Assistant from August 2016 to May 2018.

"Jacob really stood out as a candidate for this position due to his experience in the GSC and his familiarity with AUM as a former student-athlete," said Matt Pellegrin, Sports Information Director at AUM. "His enthusiasm for AUM was evident from the very beginning of this process and the reputation he built for himself within the conference while working for Mississippi College made him our top choice."

During his time at Mississippi College, Horton worked with Assistant AD for Athletic Communications, David Nichols and Kyle Lewis, to help work in all facets of the sports information office to promote MC's 17 NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. He served as the primary contact for Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's Golf and Tennis, promoting a Gulf South Conference Regular Season Women's Soccer title in 2017 and a Men's Soccer Gulf South Conference Regular Season title in 2016.

Prior to his time at MC, Horton spent the 2015-16 season as an intern for Tim Lutz at AUM, where he handled numerous roles in the Sports Information Department, including aiding in the startup of the Warhawk Sports Network, play-by-play and color commentary, statistical input, public address announcing and promotion of all Warhawk athletics during its final season in the NAIA. He was part of a Sports Information staff which was awarded the NAIA-SIDA Gary Spitler Memorial Award for Excellence in Publications. He also provided broadcasting for the Southern States Athletic Conference and gained experience in feature writing for AUM and the Montgomery Advertiser.

Before his time working in Sports Information, Horton pitched on the AUM baseball team in 2014 and 2015, helping the Warhawks to the NAIA Opening Round as a senior. He played Junior College Baseball at Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville, Ala. from 2012-13.
Horton earned his B.S. in Communications at AUM in 2015, and his Master's of Professional Communications in Sports from MC in May 2018.

The Grove Hill, Alabama native is the son of Gary and Cheryl Horton. He has three older sisters: Rachel, Kelsey and Dayton.
