MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team fell to the Blazers of Valdosta State University 6-3 in their opening Gulf South Conference match of the 2018 season on Friday evening.
With the loss, AUM's record drops to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in GSC play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Ruby Mendez scored a game-high two goals for the Warhawks, giving her a team-leading five goals on the season.

Allison Singleterry accounted for AUM's other goal, while Julia Simoes and
Stella Mazzillo both logged an assist in the contest.

Felicia Wester (0-3) collected a season-high ten saves in net for the Warhawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks struck first in the seventh minute of the match, off a corner kick that Simoes deflected to Singleterry for her second goal of the season.
- AUM would go on to double their lead in the 18th minute, when Mendez stole a pass from a Blazer defender to find the back of the net.
- After two quick goals from the Blazers to tie the match up, the Warhawks would retake the lead in the 42nd minute, when Mendez found the back of the net with help from Mazzillo.
- After taking a 3-2 lead into halftime, the Warhawks would go on to be outscored 4-0 in the second half, giving way to the 6-3 final.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Warhawks took 12 shots on the evening, with six on frame, while the Blazers took 22 with 16 on frame.
- AUM took one corner kick, while Valdosta State took five.
- The Warhawks were whistled for just five fouls all night, while the Blazers were tagged for eight.
- AUM committed just one offside infraction, while Valdosta State committed three.
