Men’s Soccer Earns Home Playoff Match with 2-0 Win at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team officially clinched a home playoff match in round one of Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Championship with their 2-0 victory at Christian Brothers on Saturday, Nov. 9.
 
NOTEWORTHY
- The win brings AUM's regular-season record to 9-5-3 overall, and 5-2-3 in GSC play, marking for the most regular-season wins for the men's soccer program since 2015.   
- The Warhawks finish the regular season with 21 conference points, good enough to earn them the number-two seed in the postseason tournament.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Thomas Carlile logged both of AUM's goals on the day, bringing his season total to seven; a mark that ranks for sixth in the Gulf South. 
- Lucas Batistela accounted for his first assist as a member of the Warhawks in the win.
- Arnaud Baron took a team-high six shots in the game.
- In goal, Alexander Kraus picked up his sixth shutout of the season, while improving his 2019 record to 9-3-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- AUM scored both of their goals within one minute of game time of each other. Carlile's first of two scores came in minute number 37, with help from Batistela. 
- One minute and six seconds of game time later, Carlile would get his brace and double the Warhawk's lead to 2-0. 
- AUM would hold steady for the remainder of the game, to preserve the shutout and clinch the victory.
 
QUOTING THE COACH
"I'm very proud of the lads for getting the win and finishing second in the GSC," Head Coach Matthew Thorne said. "This is a fantastic achievement, considering how impressive the GSC is. We've earned the right to host a GSC playoff game, in just our first year that we are eligible to do so in the NCAA. That's a very special accomplishment for these guys. Tuesday night will be a battle, and we look forward to the challenge."

- The Warhawks registered two shots on goal, with seven shots taken in the first half, and four in the second. 
- AUM took two corner kicks in the game, while CBU took four.

- The Warhawks will host Alabama-Huntsville in round one of the GSC Men's Soccer Championship on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Admission to the game is free, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. from the AUM Soccer Complex.
