ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM (3-3, 1-0 GSC) heads into the weekend riding a three-match win streak, with victories over Florida Southern, Georgia Southwestern and Union their last three times out.
The Warhawks opened up Gulf South Conference play with a dramatic 1-0 overtime win at Union University on Sunday, Sept. 22 their last time out. Sophomore midfielder
Renan Diniz delivered the golden goal in the 99th minute of the game via penalty kick to send AUM home victorious.
Through six games, the Warhawks have netted eight goals, for an average of 1.33 per contest. The Warhawks 73 shots taken currently ranks for third in the conference, while their 34 shots on goal ranks for second in the Gulf South.
Newcomers
Thomas Carlile and Diniz both lead the Warhawks with two goals scored on the year. Carlile leads the AUM attack with six total points accumulated, while Diniz leads the GSC with two game-winning goals netted and leads all Warhawks with seven shots on goal.
In the assist stat column,
Phillip Spickenbaum paces the Orange and Black, while ranking third in the conference, with three on the year. Carlile ranks second on the squad with a pair of assists, while
Arnaud Baron leads the Warhawks with 15 shots taken and has also picked up an assist in 2019.
Goalkeeper
Alexander Kraus (3-1) has notched victories his last three times in net for AUM, and is one of only six GSC keepers with a sub-one goal's against average this season at 0.98. The sophomore keeper has allowed just four goals this season, and owns a 73 percent save efficiency.
AUM has seen no shortage of scoring opportunities so far in 2019, having taken a GSC-best 41 corner kicks through six matches. The Warhawk's 6.83 corners per contest currently ranks second in the conference.
The Warhawks bring an all-time record of 1-2 into their meeting with the Lakers, having dropped their last contest 3-1 to Clayton State during the 2016 season.
ABOUT THE LAKERS
Clayton State (6-1) comes into their matchup with AUM having won six of their first seven matches to start the season, highlighted by a 2-1 record against GSC teams. The Lakers knocked off Shorter University 5-0 in their most contest on Sept. 24.
The Lakers possess a potent offensive attack, ranking second in the nation with 23 goals scored and ninth in the country with a 3.29 goals-per-game average. Clayton State also ranks second in the country with 63 shots on goal, ninth with nine shots on goal per game and fourth with 117 shot attempts.
Ryan King ranks tied for third in Division-II with seven goals scored, while Brad Kay ranks among the top 10 in the nation with five goals scored. Theo Blachon, Hector Gutierrez and Mitro Turunen all lead the Lakers with two assists apiece.
In goal, Blachon leads the nation with five shutouts, and is one of only 23 D-II goalies to have allowed two or fewer goals on the year. Blachon ranks sixth in the nation with a 0.28 goals against average.
