Carlile’s Brace Leads Men’s Soccer Past Lakers, 2-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Junior forward Thomas Carlile logged his second two-goal performance in three games, while helping the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team take down Clayton State 2-0 in their final nonconference match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 28 from the AUM Soccer Complex. 
 
NOTEWORTHY
- The win marks for AUM's fourth in a row, and brings their 2019 record to 4-3.
- The victory also brings the Warhawk's all-time series record with Clayton State to 2-2.   
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Carlile also added a game-high nine shots, with a game-high six shots on frame. The Athgarvan, Ireland native has now scored four goals over his last three games and leads the Warhawks with six total points accumulated on the year.
- Darius Rashid added an assist on Carlile's second score of the night, his first as a member of the Orange and Black. 
- Lucas Batistela recorded a pair of shots on goal in the game, while Natan Hjaltalin accounted for three shots taken.
- Renan Diniz and Phillip Spickenbaum both took a pair of shots in the contest, with one of Diniz's coming on frame.
- In goal, Alexander Kraus improved to 4-1 on the season, with a pair of saves in his second consecutive shutout for AUM.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carlile's first goal came in minute number 26, immediately following a shot from Spickenbaum that hit off the left post, and a shot of his own that was blocked by Clayton State.
- Less than 10 minutes of game time later, Carlile would notch goal number two. Rashid helped set up the second score in minute number 34 by delivering a pass to Carlile from the midfield that hit him in stride on his way into the box. 
- The Lakers would get two of their better looks in the second half with a pair of shots on frame, but Kraus was able to stop each attempt to help preserve the shutout.

- The Warhawks took a season-high 20 shots on the night, their highest total since the 2017 season. Nine of those 20 came on frame. 
- AUM took nine shots in the first half, and 11 in half number two. 
- The Warhawk backline held strong all night, surrendering just two shots on goal. The AUM defense has not allowed a goal over their last 244 minutes of action. 
- AUM took eight corner kicks in the match, while Clayton State took six. The Warhawks have now took 49 corners in 2019, a mark that leads all GSC teams. 
 
UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will hit the road for a two-match GSC slate next weekend, beginning with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Spring Hill College on Friday, Oct. 4.
