Women's Tennis Soars Past Shorter in GSC Opener, 7-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery women's tennis team soared past the Shorter Lady Hawks 7-0 in dominating fashion on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in their Gulf South Conference opener at the AUM Tennis Complex, earning a win in all three doubles matches and all six singles contests to record their first shutout of the season. 
 
QUOTING THE COACH
"Today we competed very well," Head Coach Yair Banuelos said. "We haven't been able to practice a lot over the last few days because of the weather, so today it came down to finding our rhythm early and we did just that. I'm super pleased to start conference play with a win."

MATCH NOTES
-    AUM improves to 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 in GSC action.
-    Shorter drops to 0-4 for the year, and 0-3 in GSC matches.  
-    Freshman Isabella Pinto earned her first collegiate single's victory in the win.

-    No. 1 Singles:  Tonja Foessmeier defeated Melinda Churn 6-4, 7-5 
-    No. 2 Singles:  Sofia Navarro defeated Anastasia Jovicic 6-2, 6-1 
-    No. 3 Singles: Maria Casas defeated Andrea Medel 6-3, 7-5
-    No. 4 Singles: Sofia Mustre defeated Alana Mulkey 6-2, 6-1 
-    No. 5 Singles: Julia Enderink defeated Mary Ella Owen 6-0. 6-3
-    No. 6 Singles: Isabella Pinto defeated Emma Novis 6-0, 6-0 

-    No. 1 Doubles: Casas and Navarro defeated Jovicic and Chrun 6-1
-    No. 2 Doubles:  No. 20 Enderink and De la Torre defeated Mulkey and Medel 6-2            
-    No. 3 Doubles:  Mustre and Pinto defeated Owen and Novis 6-0

UP NEXT
- AUM women's tennis will travel to Young Harris, Ga. on Saturday, Feb. 29 to face off against Young Harris College. The match will take place at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex at 2:30 p.m. (CST).
