Men’s Soccer Lights it up in 4-1 Win Over Montevallo

Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team punched in a pair of goals in both the first and second half to cruise their way to a 4-1 win over the University of Montevallo on Friday, Feb. 12.

With the win, AUM opens up the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship series with a record of 1-0.

The Warhawks struck for two goals over the game's first 30 minutes to help set the tone for the day.

Phillip Spickenbaum logged AUM's first goal, with help from Guilherme Bittencourt and Nathaniel Grant. Andrew Elkins doubled the Warhawks' lead to 2-0 on a goal set up by Bittencourt and Glenn Waters.

Charlie Elliott accounted for the Warhawks' first goal of the second half, with help from Spickenbaum. Elijah Saint-Marc delivered the final blow for AUM, with help from Renan Diniz

"Today was a classic GSC battle; a physical hard fought game from both teams," Head Coach Matthew Thorne said. "We started the game slow but fought our way back in. We had some great goals from Phil, Andy, Charlie and Elijah. Alexander Kraus was fantastic today also for us in goal. Overall, I'm very pleased with an away win against a very good side that has weapons to cause any team issues. We'll enjoy the win tonight and then come back tomorrow and get ready for our next game."

The men's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 21 when they take on Lee University at 3:00 p.m. (CST) from Cleveland, Tenn.
