Krueger’s Grand Slam Powers Warhawks To Series Sweep

JACKSON, TENN. – Senior backstop Abby Krueger's grand slam in the fifth inning helped propel the Auburn University at Montgomery softball team to an 11-0 and a Gulf South Conference series sweep over Union.

AUM wins their 19th straight game after the shutout victory over the Lady Bulldogs and improves their 2021 record to 12-0 and 6-0 in the GSC. Union falls to 2-15 on the year after losing three straight to the Warhawks.

Jaycie Walker had a stellar game three against Union in the series finale, recording three hits and three RBI. Gia Martin and Krueger also netted multi-RBI games, aiding the Orange & Black to the blowout win.

Allie Miller set the table once again for the Warhawks in the first inning after leading off the contest with a double down the right-field line. She forced the issue with the Union defense, stealing third base and scoring on a throwing error from the catcher.

The AUM offense did not stop there as later in the inning, a Molly Cobb single drove home Martin to run the score to 2-0. Walker was able to triple down the right-field line to score Cobb, tripling the Warhawk lead later in the inning.

Krueger broke the offensive silence in the top of the fifth with a grand slam, scoring Morgan Duschell, Peri Clark and Cobb, giving AUM a 7-0 lead.

Martin continued the offensive onslaught later in the inning, with a two-run single to right field, scoring Parker Pinholster and Hannah Dailey. AUM added two more runs on a single from Walker to give the Warhawks their 11-0 win over Union.

Alanna Goble was exceptional again in the circle for the Warhawks, earning her sixth win of the season. The sophomore spun five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven Lady Bulldogs.
