The Warhawks had trouble scoring early in game two but were able to secure some offense, thanks in large part to
Gracie Harris, who had a two-run triple after earning the start in the first game on Saturday.
Alanna Goble looked like her old self in game one, going six strong innings, striking out seven Wolves while surrendering just one run and four hits.
The first four innings of game one were similar to the ones on Friday night. Both pitchers settled in quickly and did not allow much offense from the opposing lineups.
West Georgia's Madison Slappey got the offense started in the fifth inning with a solo home run to right-center field off of Goble to give the Wolves a late 1-0 lead.
The fifth inning featured vintage Warhawk softball as
Morgan Duschell found herself on third base with
Hannah Dailey across from her at first base. Dailey started toward second base, allowing Duschell to take advantage of mental mistakes from West Georgia, and was able to tie the game with a steal of home.
With two outs and two strikes in the inning, Harris was able to lace a ball into the left-center field gap to score two runs, giving the Warhawks' a dramatic 3-1 lead over West Georgia heading into the sixth inning.
With a two-run lead in the seventh, the Wolves were able to mount a comeback off
Chanel Newcomer, scoring three runs with two outs, giving West Georgia a 4-3 lead that they would not surrender.
Game two started similarly to the first two games of the series as neither side was able to get much offense going early in the game. The third game of the series was scoreless after four innings of action as both starters were dominant.
In the fifth inning, the Warhawks were able to take advantage of the Wolves' mistakes in the field. Dailey was able to reach on a fielder's choice, allowing Harris to score while two runners moved into scoring position.
Lauren Haskins was able to score on a wild pitch to give AUM a 2-0 lead, while an RBI bunt single from
Parker Pinholster stretched the AUM lead out to 3-0.
Molly Cobb cracked into the hit column for the first time in the series with an RBI double into left-center field, scoring
Allie Miller and Pinholster to give AUM a 5-0 lead. The scoring finished for AUM with an RBI dribbler from
Jaycie Walker, scoring
Tatiana Ervin from third.
Cydney Sizemore and
Bailie Barnes combined to throw seven shutout innings to secure the AUM victory in game three. The two hurlers combined to allow just two hits while striking out three.
AUM will hit the road for their next game when they travel to North Georgia to take on the top team in the country in a midweek doubleheader. The action from Dahlonega, Ga., is set to begin Tuesday at 2 p.m.
