#3 Warhawks Fall 3-0 To #21 Rollins College In Season Finale

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The third-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team fell 3-0 to No. 21 Rollins College in the elimination bracket of the NCAA South Regional on Friday afternoon, marking the end to a historic season for AUM.

AUM finishes their season with a 40-7 record after winning their first-ever Gulf South Conference championship and after making their first NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Warhawks had a chance to get on the board in the first inning against the Tars but were unable to cash in. Allie Miller led off the game by reaching base on a throwing error, and after a sac bunt from Olivia Aycock, Miller was stranded at third to end the inning.

Rollins made them pay in the top of the second, taking advantage of a single then a throwing error to put runners on the corners with nobody out. The next batter grounded into a double play, allowing AUM to trade two outs for a run.

A one-out walk came back to bite the Warhawks in the top of the third, as Chelsea Pearce doubled down the left-field line to score the runner from first and, as a result, doubling the Tars' lead to 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third.

AUM was able to load the bases with one away in their half of the third inning with the heart of the order coming up. After a 15-pitch marathon with the Rollins starter and Abby Krueger, she was retired on strikes for the second out, and the pitcher Ali
Shenefield was able to get out of the inning with a popout.

With two away in the inning and a runner on second after an error in centerfield, a ball was hit to the AUM second basemen Lauren Haskins, who booted the ball, allowing the runner to score from second to give the Tars a 3-0 lead.

Newcomer came into the game in the fourth inning and shut down the Tars through 3.1 innings of work. She limited Rollins to zero hits while striking out three batters in relief to keep the Warhawks in the game in the late stages.

The Warhawks were threatening in the bottom of the sixth, getting two runners at the plate with one away. With pinch hitter Gracie Harris representing the tying run, the senior was unable to extend the inning, leaving the game at a 3-0 deficit for AUM.

AUM could not muster any offense in the bottom half of the seventh inning, going down in order that put an end to a historic season.
