#9 Softball Sets Stolen Base Record, Runs All Over Union For Series Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The ninth-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team stole a program-record 12 bases in their 8-0 win over Gulf South Conference foe Union on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex.

The Warhawks win their 30th game of 2022 and sit at 18-3 in Gulf South Conference play, good for second in the league behind Valdosta State. Union falls to 13-24 this season, with a 7-14 mark in conference action.

Junior arm Alanna Goble won her seventh game of the season and now has six straight complete-game wins. The Blountsville native limited Union to five hits over six innings while striking out four Bulldogs.

Kat Fallen, Olivia Aycock, and Margaret Morgan netted at least two hits in the series finale. Fallen launched a walk-off two-run home run to reach the run-rule for AUM.

Aycock, Fallen, Gia Martin, Chloe Derrick, Allie Miller, Shelby Edgeworth, Lexie Bullock, Faith Wheat, and Shelby Newsome all recorded at least one stolen base against Union on Sunday to help break the school record set in 2020 against Tuskegee.

AUM once again scored first against Union as Molly Cobb was able to deliver an RBI groundout to score Aycock to give the Warhawks an early 1-0 lead.

Derrick rebounded in game three and placed a double off of the outstretched arm of the centerfielder to score two runs to push the AUM lead to 3-0. Derrick would later come around to score in the inning after an RBI single from Miller.

Morgan brought home AUM's fifth run of the game after an error from the Union first basemen extended the inning and allowed Miller to score an unearned run. After a bunt single to score Wheat in the sixth from Aycock, Fallen ended the game with her team-leading 10th home run of the season.

A top-10 showdown awaits the Warhawks in their next game, as AUM will travel to Valdosta State to begin a critical three-game series with the fourth-ranked and GSC-leading Blazers. Game one from Valdosta is set to begin on Friday, April 15, at 4 p.m.
