#2 Softball Splits Doubleheader With Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The second-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team fell 9-3 in game one to Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers before rebounding with a 10-6 win in game two to earn the split.

The Warhawks now stand at 33-8 in 2022 and move to 21-5 in Gulf South Conference action. Christian Brothers stand at 14-29 this year, with an 8-18 mark in conference play.

The Warhawks got another multi-hit game from Kat Fallen in game one, as she went 3-4 with two RBIs. Molly Cobb launched her fifth home run of the season in the series opener.

The scoring in Memphis got started early, as Cobb connected on a two-out solo shot in the top of the first to put AUM ahead. The Bucs, however, were able to answer in the bottom half of the inning after scoring two runs on a single over the head of the AUM shortstop.

Fallen was able to even the score in the top of the third after an RBI single scored freshman Haley Ann Frank. The lead, however, wouldn't last long as CBU took back the lead after a solo home run.

The Christian Brothers' home run in the fourth would be the first of seven unanswered runs from the Buccaneers, as the Warhawks entered the seventh inning trailing 9-2 after an offensive explosion from Christian Brothers.

Fallen recorded her second RBI of the day in the top of the seventh to bring the game to 9-3, but the game would end on a double-play ball off the bat of Cobb to give the Bucs an upset win over the Warhawks.

Game two saw multi-hit efforts from Allie Miller, Gia Martin, Olivia Aycock, and Shelby Newsome. Newsome and Martin were able to connect on home runs in the contest, and they were both able to net three RBIs in the game.

Cobb once again was able to open the scoring for AUM in the top of the first after an RBI groundout to the pitcher scored Miller.

Frank was able to advance Aycock to home after a single found its way out of the infield and into center, while Newsome was able to score Frank to put AUM ahead 3-0.

After a two-run homer from Christian Brothers cut the AUM lead to one, the Bucs were able to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single tied the game.

AUM was able to answer immediately in the following half-inning as Martin launched a ball over the center-field fence to score three runs. An Aycock RBI triple extended the lead to 7-3, while a homer late in the inning from Newsome put AUM ahead 10-3.

Despite two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Hannah Creel and the Warhawks were able to hang on for a 10-6 win over Christian Brothers to set up a rubber match tomorrow afternoon at noon.
