LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Auburn University at Montgomery sophomore second basemen Gia Martin has been named one of the best softball players in the country as the NFCA recognized her on the NFCA all-American third team.
This is Martin's first-career all-American award. The Bowling Green, Kentucky native, is currently hitting .299 in 2022 and has led the Warhawks to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA D2 Finals. Martin slugged 11 home runs and has recorded 56 RBIs this season.
Martin has played all over the diamond for AUM this year, seeing time at third base, second base, center field, and first base in 2022. She is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 19, and she has added eight doubles and six triples to her offensive totals.
The Warhawks are set to play in their inaugural D2 Finals game on Thursday when they take on No. 6 Seton Hill. AUM will battle the Griffins in Denver at The Assembly Athletic Complex at MSU Denver at 7:30 p.m.
