Softball Falls To North Georgia, 8-0

DENVER, Co. – The third-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery softball team dropped their second game of the NCAA D2 Championships to seventh-seeded North Georgia on Friday afternoon 8-0.

The Warhawks fall to 1-1 and slip into the elimination bracket. North Georgia improves to 2-0 after defeating No. 2 Adelphi in their tournament opener yesterday.

AUM used four pitchers in the game two contest against the Nighthawks. Alanna Goble recorded the start while Brinkley Yevak, Morgan Ferguson, and Hannah Creel entered in relief. Faith Wheat and Kat Fallen registered the only two hits in the loss.

North Georgia struck first against the Warhawks as Madison Simmons connected on a two-out solo home run to put the Nighthawks ahead 1-0. The game was put in a weather delay in the middle of the third inning that lasted 45 minutes.

With two runners on base after the rain delay, a pitch from Yevak got away and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch to run the score to 2-0. A two-run single from Jaycie Michael pushed the UNG lead to 5-0, and Georgia Blair ended the scoring in the third with an RBI single.

After another run from North Georgia secured the eight-run lead with an RBI double in the top of the fourth. Despite having a runner on second in the bottom of the fifth, the Warhawks were unable to bring a run across, resulting in UNG's 8-0 win.

The Warhawks will now face elimination tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. AUM needs a win to continue their tournament run, and they will play the winner of No. 4 Southern Indiana and No. 1 UT Tyler at 1 p.m.
