FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Auburn Montgomery women's tennis team's historic 2022 campaign came to a close at the hands of a 4-0 loss to no. 3 Saint Leo University in its inaugural trip to the NCAA South Regional Tournament.
The result sees the Warhawks finish 2022 with an overall record of 17-8, their most wins since the 2017 season.
The Lions began the day by taking the doubles point over AUM with a 6-1 victory at the number-two flight and a 6-2 victory at the number-three flight.
In single's play, Saint Leo grabbed its three points at the number six, number four, and number one flights.
"We had a great year," Head Coach
Yair Banuelos said. "We faced a lot of adversity playing the teams we had to play and beating the teams we beat as a young team. Our five new players that came in this year did an exceptional job of buying into the culture of our program. Our seniors,
Sofia Navarro and
Alba De La Torre, worked really hard day in and day out and finished their collegiate careers strong. I can't thank them enough for their contributions to this program and am also very proud of this team."
