Men's Soccer Dealt 1-0 Defeat in Gulf South Conference Semifinals

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Fourth-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery out-shot eighth-seeded Delta State University 12-6, including 6-1 in shots on goal, but the Statesmen converted their lone shot for a goal in the 33rd minute in the semifinals of the 2023 Gulf South Conference tournament.

The Warhawks simply could not find the back of the net on a plethora of great chances in front of the net, with the Statesmen in the right place at the right time to stymie multiple goal-scoring opportunities for the black and orange.

FROM THE COACHING BOX

  • "I am very proud of these lads this season," said head coach Matthew Thorne. "Today we pushed all the way. Unfortunately, the ball did not find the back of the net from some of our great chances. Congratulations to Delta on reaching the final. I would like to say a special thank you to all of our seniors who have been phenomenal leaders and helped this program receive national recognition! I have so much belief in this talented group moving forward. Always, Up The Warhawks!"
