Women's Tennis Picks Up Victories Over Middle Georgia State, Tuskegee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 13th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team defeated Middle Georgia State University 5-2 and Tuskegee University 7-0 on Friday at the AUM Tennis Complex in non-conference action.

  • In singles action, Garcia swept court one against Prieto 6-0, 6-0 to claim a point. 
  • Yakup Pour and Anna Ruiz Masip battles at court two with Masip taking the win 6-1, 6-3. 
  • Regina Urbiola won at court three 6-0, 6-2 to tally a point for AUM. 
  • Villalvazo picked up a victory at court four 6-3, 6-0 against Liza Hinrichs to pick up a point. 
  • Rebecca Lopez defeated Pinto 6-3, 6-3 to claim a point for MGSU at court five. 
  • Court six went to AUM with Sofia Neri earning the win 6-4, 6-1 against Paula Rodriguez. 
FIRST SERVE – DOUBLES (GM 2)
  • Garcia and Urbiola battled Tuskegee's Devynn Jackson and Dayna Jackson 6-4 at doubles court one. 
  • Neri and Yakup Pour took down Chloe Harrington and Mikiah Stephenson 6-2 at court two. 
  • Pinto and Villalvazo swept Brianna Harden and Barbara Phillips 6-0 at court three. 
FIRST SERVE – DOUBLES (GM 2)
  • Garcia played Devynn Jackson at court one 6-0, 6-1 to claim a point for Tuskegee. 
  • Yakup Pour and Dayna Jackson battled three sets at court two and Yakup Pour dropped the first set 4-6 and fought back to win the next two sets 6-3, 12-10. 
  • Urbiola defeated Harrington took court three 6-2, 6-1 to pick up the third point for AUM. 
  • Villalvazo defeated Taylor Ford 6-1, 6-2 at court four to claim a point. 
  • Pinto tallied a point against Tuskegee's Mikiah Stephenson 6-3, 6-2. 
  • Neri defeated Jera Hargrove 6-1, 6-1 to claim the seventh point for the Warhawks.

"We did not have such a good day in doubles but, we found a way to win the point. We started off with three courts winning first sets," head tennis coach Yair Banuelos said. "In the second match, it was a well fought match and Tuskegee has improved a lot. We had to wake up on a couple of courts. I was pleased with how we kept our composure and we got the two victories today!

AUM travels to Spring Hill College on Wednesday, February 8 in Mobile, Alabama with the first serve at noon.
