Ferguson's No-Hitter Helps Softball Take Doubleheader From Delta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Morgan Ferguson tossed a no-hitter in game one and Molly Cobb drove in two runs in the second game to help the Auburn University at Montgomery softball team take both games from Delta State University on Friday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader.

The Warhawks took game one 9-1 in six innings and the second game 4-2.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • Delta State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after scoring on a passed ball. 
  • The Lady Statesmen did not hold the lead for long as Lexi Love drew a bases loaded walk and brought in a run to even things up. Chloe Baynes reached on a fielder's choice and scored Olivia Aycock. 
  • The Warhawks had a big fourth inning that started with Aycock and Gia Martin utilizing a double steal and scoring a run. It was followed with Love ripping a RBI single and scored Aycock to push the score to 4-1. 
  • Molly Cobb singled and scored Shelby Edgeworth in the fourth. It was followed by Kat Fallen tallying a two-RBI single to give AUM a 7-1 lead. 
  • Baynes knocked a single to left field that scored Faith Wheat in the fifth inning to add a run. 
  • Chloe Derrick ended things in the sixth with a solo homer to left field to give Auburn Montgomery the run-rule victory at 9-1. 
IN THE CIRCLE (GM 1)
  •  Morgan Ferguson (8-3) went six innings and did not give up a hit. She faced 20 batters on the day and struck five out. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
  • Delta State opened the second game with a couple of base hits and a single scored Raegan Stafford. 
  • Cobb grounded out and scored Allie Miller to bring the game at one a piece in the first inning. 
  • The two teams remained scoreless until Love doubled to left field and scored Wheat to take the Warhawks on top.
  • Cobb delivered a RBI single to left field and scored Love. Fallen added a RBI single to right field and scored Baynes.
  • Delta State tried to rally in the sixth but all they got was one run and the Warhawks took the game 4-2. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
  •  Avery Dickerson (W, 8-2) worked the complete seven-inning game allowing two runs on five hits with one being a earned run. She struck six batters out. 
UP NEXT

AUM and Delta State will close the series on Sunday, March 25 at 1 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
