INDIANAPOLIS --
Auburn University at Montgomery Chancellor Dr. Carl Stockton was among 12 individuals from seven different Gulf South Conference institutions that were nominated for the NCAA Division II Gold Award, as announced by the NCAA national office.

Dr. Carl Stockton

This award, which is part of the division's yearlong 50th anniversary celebration that launched Aug. 7 and will extend through the 2024 Division II Baseball Championship in June, will recognize two individuals who have made a positive impact in Division II.

In total, there were 231 total nominations for the Gold Award across the 23 Division II conferences. The GSC saw a dozen candidates submitted - one conference administrator, one faculty athletic representative (FAR), two student-athletes, three coaches, three directors of athletics, and two university Presidents. Only active Division II member institutions were eligible for consideration.

The Gold Award is designed to recognize two individuals (one who identifies as male and one who identifies as female) who have made a positive impact in Division II. They may be a current or former student-athlete, coach, faculty, or administrator from an active member institution or a current or former conference office administrator. Nominees are individuals who have distinguished themselves in the areas of athletics or professional achievement, service, and leadership.

Candidates will be reviewed by conferences with one male and one female individual to move on to the national ballot. The NCAA Division II Management Council Identity Subcommittee will then evaluate nominees from all 23 conferences with one male and one female winner. Overall winners will be recognized in January at the 2024 NCAA Convention in Phoenix.
