PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 11th-ranked AUM men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling at West Florida, 2-1, at the UWF Soccer Complex on Sunday.
AUM (5-1-5, 3-1-2 Gulf South) fell behind 2-0 before mounting a furious rally in the final six minutes. The Warhawks finished with eight shots including three on goal.
UWF (6-1-2, 4-0-2) got goals in the 54th and 84th minutes to grab a 2-0 lead.
The Argos outshot the Warhawks 5-4 in the opening 45 minutes. AUM's best chance to score came in the 19th minute when
Carlo Russo had a 1v1 with UWF's Nicholas Meckien. Meckien charged off his line and got just enough of Russo's shot to deflect it into open space where it was cleared away by UWF.
UWF struck first on a goal by Mar Aegisson at the 53:58 mark, taking a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the goal. The Argos added to their tally at the 83:11 point following a poor clearance with Kendrick Hernandez flipping the ball into the box where Keegan Ancelin 1-timed it past
William Blake.
AUM got on the board with 1:53 to play on a
Landon Surratt throw-in that
Yanis Lasri headed in after the ball went past the large mob of players in the box.
The Warhawks had one more scoring chance in the final seconds but
Brayden Strait's 1-timer on a header from
Carlo Russo went just over the crossbar as time expired.
Blake finished with six saves while Meckien made two.
