This Week in AUM Athletics: Oct. 14-20

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Each week, the Auburn University at Montgomery Office of Athletics Communications previews the upcoming week with “This Week in AUM Athletics.” We've got three home event scheduled between Volleyball and men's and women's soccer, while men's and women's tennis travels to Tuscaloosa for the GSC Fall Championships.

THIS WEEK IN AUM ATHLETICS (SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 6)

  • Women's Volleyball returns home for a pair of matches this week, hosting Montevallo on Thursday and Alabama Huntsville on Friday. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m. At the AUM Athletics Complex.
  • Maya Thompson is coming off a week where she was the only player in the GSC to rank in the top 6 in kills (3.42, 4th), blocks (1.2, 6th) and points per set (4.21, 3rd).
  • UM is 8-10 overall and 5-3 in GSC play. The Falcons are sixth in hitting (.172), third in blocks (1.93) and 10th in digs (12.27) in the league. Nikol Antova is second in the GSC with 3.39 kills/set, Danielle Green is fifth in blocks with 0.99 blocks/set, and Ava Wind is fourth in digs with 3.96 digs/set.
  • UM leads the all-time series 6-4, but AUM has won four of the last five, including the last three in Montgomery.
  • UAH sits in second place in the GSC at 7-1 and has a 16-2 season record. The Chargers two losses came to Midwest region power Ferris State (currently 17-0 & #4 in D2) and GSC leader UWF - both in four sets. UAH has the top defense in the conference, leading the group of 11 in opponent hitting pct. (.135) and blocks (2.86, also 2nd in D2), while ranking third in digs (15.9).

  • AUM is currently 2-7-2 after a pair of conference games last week. They dropped two games on the road at Spring Hill and West Florida.
  • They will return home for conference match this weekend, hosting Valdosta State. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the AUM Soccer Complex.
  • The Warhawks have scored 17 goals for a 1.55 goals per game average. They are recording eight shots per game with 50 percent of those on goal.
  • Five different players have scored multiple goals on the year, with Laia Gonzalez leading the way with five scores. Her five scores are the second most in GSC.
  • Karla Guzman-Ortiz recorded 18 saves over this weeks two games for a total of 71 on the season to lead the way in GSC. Her

  • AUM went 0-1-1 last week with a tie at Spring Hill and a 2-1 loss to UWF that featured the teams tied for first place in the GSC. The Warhawks are now 5-1-5 overall and 3-1-2 in the league. AUM will play just one game this week, traveling to Montevallo on Friday night for a 6:30 contest at Varsity Soccer Field.
  • Landon Surratt is one of the top defenders in the GSC and is tied for the GSC lead with six assists. Benjamin Hoffman is one of the top freshman as well, with five goals to rank fourth in the conference.
  • The Warhawks have the top two goalkeepers in the GSC, with Alfie Rule eighth nationally and first in the GSC with a 0.545 goals against average. William Blake is fifth in the league at 1.09.
  • UM is 5-4-2 and 3-3 after losses to West Florida and Spring Hill last week. The Falcons have scored 18 goals while allowing 19 this season. They are in the middle of the GSC with 13.2 shots and 6.2 shots on goal per game. Cristobal Porter is tied for the league lead in assists at six with Surratt.
  • The all-time series is tied at 6-6-0. AUM has won the last three and five of the last six. The Warhawks have also captured the last three in Montevallo.
