This Week In AUM Athletics: Oct. 7-13

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Each week, the Auburn University at Montgomery Office of Athletics Communications previews the upcoming week with “This Week in AUM Athletics.” We've got just one home event scheduled with Volleyball hosting Gulf South Conference opponent, West Florida.

THIS WEEK IN AUM ATHLETICS (SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 6)

  • The Warhawks dropped three Gulf South Conference games last week against Valdosta State, Union and Christian Brothers.
  • This week features three more conference matchups, starting off hosting West Florida on Oct. 9, and then hitting the road for two away games at Lee and Trevecca Nazarene.
  • AUM is hitting .168 with 11 kills per set. The Warhawks are one of the better serving teams in the GSC, with 2.04 aces per set which places them fourth in the conference.
  • Maya Thompson is seventh in the GSC with 2.96 kills per set.
  • Greta Corrente has the second most service aces in GSC with 27 while Carly Cooper is ninth overall with 20.

  • AUM is currently 2-5-2 after a pair of conference games last week. They tied on the road at West Florida, while dropping a home match with Alabama Huntsville.
  • The Warhawks have scored 15 goals for a 1.7 goals per game average. They are recording nine shots per game with 50 percent of those on goal.
  • Five different players have scored multiple goals on the year, with Laia Gonzalez leading the way with four scores.
  • Freshman Lucy Thomas scored a pair of goals in this weeks game with one against West Florida and Alabama Huntsville. 
  • Karla Guzman-Ortiz has started every minute in goal and sports a 2.06 goals-against average with 53 saves and a .746 save pct. - sixth in the GSC.

  • AUM is 5-0-4 on the season with five shutouts. The Warhawks are ranked 11th nationally. They will continue GSC play this week against Spring Hill and West Florida.
  • AUM is tied for the lead in goals-against average in Division 2 with a 0.56 avg. The five shutouts are tied for second in the country. The .848 save pct by goalkeepers Alfie Rule and William Blake is also second in the country.
  • Offensively, AUM averages 1.33 goals per game on 11 shots per game with 5.44 on goal per contest.

  • The Warhawks will continue the competition in Tallahassee, Fla. at the Florida State XC Invite  this weekend on October 11.
  • The men's team placed 13th a week ago in Louisville with Dalton Benefield leading the way.
  • The women's team took seventh place in Louisville with three, top-50 finishers.
