AUM Drops NCAA Second Round Contest To Coker 3-2 In Overtime

The Warhawks went 11-3-6 and won the program's first-ever GSC Championship

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The sixth-seeded AUM men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 overtime defeat to third-seeded Coker in the NCAA Division II Second Round at the Coker Athletic Field on Sunday.

AUM led 2-1 before the Cobras tied the game midway through the second half before scoring the difference maker early in the first overtime. Coker will play at second-seeded Lynn in the third round.

AUM ends the season with an 11-3-6 record, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last four seasons. The Warhawks qualified for the postseason by winning the program's first-ever Gulf South Conference Championship last week.

On Sunday, Coker got on the board first with a goal in the 15th minute when Vitalis Takawira hit a free kick over a wall from 25 yards the curled into the left corner of the goal.

The Warhawks struck right back seven minutes later when Landon Surratt converted on an assist from Nicolas Atkinson.

AUM took a 2-1 lead into the half when Yanis Lasri scored on a throw in from Surratt at the 34:02 mark.

The Cobras even it back at 2 when Oskar Kaufmann scored in the 60th minute.

Coker got the game winner 3:30 into the first overtime, scoring on a free kick from near the corner kick as Nikola Sotra headed in a Frederic Benedix service.
