Softball Wins Eighth Straight Game In Series Sweep Over West Georgia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team completed the sweep over the University of West Georgia on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex by final scores of 10-4 and 9-1 in Gulf South Conference action.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • West Georgia took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning off three RBI-singles. 
  • Haley Ann Frank and Kat Fallen batted in runs in the bottom half of the first inning to make it 3-2. 
  • The Wolves' Makaylah Register hit a solo home run in the third inning to make it 4-2. 
  • Kat Fallen homered in the third to make it 4-3 and Margaret Morgan drove in a pair of runs to give AUM a 5-4 lead and it grew again as Whitney Wells drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-4. 
  • Fallen hit a single through the left side and brought home Frank to expand the AUM lead to 7-4. 
  • Rebecca Komers hit a solo home run to left center field in the fifth and Gia Martin hit a two-run homer in the sixth as AUM earned the 10-4 victory. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Brinkley Yevak worked the first inning and gave up three earned runs on five hits. She walked one batter. 
  • Chelisa Newsome (W, 4-1) earned the win in relief and gave up one earned run on four hits. She struck six batters out. Alanna Goble tossed the final two innings and did not allow any runs or hits.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • UWG's Register hit a RBI-single in the top of the first and West Georgia took a 1-0 lead. 
  • The lead did not last as Molly Cobb hit a two-RBI double and score Frank and Baynes to give AUM the 2-1 lead. 
  • Lexi Love broke the game open with a triple to right field and she was able to score on a wild throw. She also plated two runs as AUM went up 5-1. 
  • Cobb singled to second base and score Baynes in the second inning and the Love reached on a fielder's choice scoring Frank to make it 7-1. 
  • Morgan reached on a fielder's choice and scratched another run as Komers crossed home plate and then Frank reached on a fielder's  choice scoring Haylee Brown to make it 9-1. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Avery Dickerson (W, 6-1) tossed her fourth complete game of the season and gave up one run on three hits. She struck out one batter and walked one.

The Warhawks welcome the University of West Florida or the final regular season GSC series of the season on Friday, April 19 at 5 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
