Softball's Gia Martin Earns GSC Top 10 Recognition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Auburn University at Montgomery softball player Gia Martin was named to the Gulf South Conference's Top 10 list for the 2023-24 season, according to an announcement made by the conference office. 

Martin has been a Warhawk since the 2021 season and has helped lead the Orange & Black to a pair of NCAA Division II Softball World Series appearances as well and four consecutive appearances in the NCAA South Regional Tournament. 

The Bowling Green, Kentucky native has been a staple for the program and has been named to the All-GSC Team in 2021, 2022, and 2024. In 2023, she earned the GSC's first Gold Glove Award. 

In 2022, Martin was named as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American and a Daktronics/Division II Conference Commisioner's Association All-American. 

She also has numerous academic awards as she was named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Team and won the same award in 2022. She is a muilti-time member of the GSC All-Academic Team. 

Martin is AUM's home run leader with 55 in her four-year career. She has also batted in 192 runs and scored 168 times. She has 188 hits in over 200 games played. 

The award recognizes the top female and top male student-athletes for their athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievements, during the 2023-24 academic year. The one student-athlete from each group of honorees will be also be awarded the Commissioner's Trophy, which is the conference's most prestigious individual honor and will be announced in-person at the GSC Awards Ceremony.

The GSC Top Ten Award recipients are selected with the assistance of an advisory committee representing Athletics Directors, Senior Woman Administrators (SWA), Athletic Communication Directors, Faculty Athletic Representatives, and Presidents from randomly selected GSC schools, which makes a recommendation to the Commissioner, who has the final decision.

Top Ten awardees and GSC Commissioner's Trophy winners will be honored on Thursday, May 30 in Pensacola, Fla. The ceremony will be streamed at no charge, on the conference's YouTube channel, and will be part of the GSC Hall of Fame induction.
