Softball Opens NCAA South Regional With Victory Against Spring Hill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The No. 1 seed Auburn University at Montgomery softball took down the No. 8 Spring Hill College 6-2 on Thursday night in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament at the AUM Softball Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kat Fallen hit an infield single and back-to-back walks brought up Margaret Morgan with the bases loaded. She grounded out and scored Fallen to make it 1-0 in the second inning. 
  • Chloe Baynes started the third inning off with an infield single. She stole second and third base. Haley Ann Frank was able to bring her home as AUM went up 2-0. 
  • The Warhawks took a 4-0 lead as Fallen hit a double to left field and scored Frank and Baynes in the bottom of the fifth inning. 
  • The Badgers plated a run in the top of the sixth with a RBI-double from Pittman. 
  • Auburn Montgomery's Rebecca Komers hit a double down the left field line. It brought Baynes as she singled up the middle and scored Komers. Frank hit a single and scored another run as the Warhawks went up 6-1. 
  • Spring Hill's Villar hit a RBI-single through the left side and got a run back, but could not score another run as AUM won 6-2. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Alanna Goble (W, 18-3) earned the win working 6.1 innings and striking out eight batters. She allowed four hits and one run. 
  • Avery Dickerson came in relief and faced five batters. She struck out on and allowed two hits. 
FROM THE DUGOUT

"Glad we were able to win the game of the South Region Tournament," head coach Scottie Wilkes said. "It sets a good tone for tomorrow. AG did well in the circle and our offense did a good job at putting pressure on their defense." 

UP NEXT

The Warhawks will play the No. 4 seed Nova Southeastern University in the winner's bracket on Friday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
