David Meagher Named New Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Auburn University at Montgomery Athletics has announced the hiring of David Meagher as the department's new head strength and conditioning coach.

"We are thrilled to welcome David and his family to AUM," said Director of Athletics Erik Maas. "It is a very exciting time for our student-athletes and coaches with the upcoming completion of the Student-Athlete Performance Center and the addition of Coach Meagher, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes and our entire department."

Meagher joins the Warhawk family from Florida Southern College, where he served as an assistant strength & conditioning coach since 2019. He assisted with the development and programming of all strength and conditioning activities for Florida Southern's 20 NCAA-sponsored sports, club sports, and cheerleading.

"It is an honor to be hired as the first Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Auburn University at Montgomery," Meagher said. "I would like to thank Director of Athletics Erik Maas, Associate Director of Athletics Amber Rae Childers, and the entire department for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading the sports performance efforts of all Warhawk student-athletes. I am excited to work alongside, learn from, and serve the students, coaches, and staff at AUM! Go Warhawks!"

Prior to his time in the NCAA Division II ranks, Meagher spent a year and a half as an Assistant Sports Performance coach at Santa Clara University in California, an NCAA Division I institution in the West Coast Conference. While working with the Broncos, Meagher coached the men's and women's golf programs, as well as women's rowing, volleyball, beach volleyball, and women's water polo.

"We are thrilled to have Coach Meagher join our staff and lead the strength and conditioning program as we prepare to open the new performance center," said Childers. "We look forward to Coach Meagher's leadership as we enter the new facility, which will undoubtedly enhance the Warhawk student-athlete experience and intentional development of our student-athletes."

Additionally, Meagher also spent time at Palo Alto High School and Georgia Strength/Classic City CrossFit.

"I am beyond thankful for the commitment shown by our current Strength and Conditioning Designee, Jennifer Puryear," Maas exclaimed. "She dedicated countless hours to the improvement of our student-athletes and coaches over the past few years and has left the program in an excellent place as Coach Meagher joins the staff."

Meagher is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), holds a CPR, First Aid, and AED certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). He is currently pursuing his Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).

A 2016 graduate of the University of Georgia, Meagher also spent time as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach for the Bulldogs' football and Olympic sports programs before he earned his master's in kinesiology from UGA in 2017.
