MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The AUM women's soccer team battled against a tough Georgia College squad and came away with a 1-1 tie on the road to wrap-up non-conference action Monday.
AUM (2-2-1) scored the tying goal at the 62:24 mark when
Courtney Pigford centered a short pass to
Lauren Akemon who chipped the ball from near the top of the box and over GC goalkeeper  Ella Hayes.
That's the way things stood for the remainder of the contest.
GC (3-3-1) finished with 25 shots, including 12 on goal. The Bobcats scored first on a rebound off the crossbar that Sara Schults put in the back of the goal late in the 43rd minute.
The Warhawks had a very strong scoring opportunity in the 60th minute but Hayes stopped two back-to-back shots from
Paula Galan Revuelta and
Laia Gonzalez.
AUM finished with five shots on offense.
Karla Guzman-Ortiz made a career-high 11 saves. Those are the most by a Warhawk since Rebecca Jamieson tied the school record with 15 at Georgia College two seasons ago.
AUM will return home to face Lee on Friday at 5 p.m. and Gulf South Conference newcomer Trevecca Nazarene on Sunday at 1 p.m.
