MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's soccer team (6-3-3, GSC: 3-2-2) secured its second consecutive 4-0 victory to finish off a three-game homestand on Friday night against the University of Montevallo Falcons (4-3-5, GSC: 3-1-3) at the AUM Athletics Complex.
The Warhawks scored three second-half goals for the second straight contest to hand the Montevallo its first loss in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The first goal of the game came for the Warhawks just three minutes into the match.
Jonas Gunther and
Sean Keane assisted
Noah Fernandes' fourth goal of the season as AUM quickly catapulted to a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks outshot the Falcons 7-4 in the first half, but neither team was able to find another tally as AUM held the lead at the halftime intermission.
Second Half
In the 67th minute,
Benjamin Hoffmann opened the floodgates for the Warhawks with his team-leading seventh goal of the season thanks to
Robiston Lukau's team-best fifth assist.
Roughly three minutes later, Fernandes put the match out of reach with his second goal of the night off an assist by
Alexander Carey as AUM built a 3-0 advantage.
Alan De Paula chipped in his third goal of the campaign, with help from
Sean O'Donnell, in the 81st minute to cap a three-goal half for the Warhawk offense.
NOTABLES
- Hoffmann now leads the Warhawks with 16 points, while O'Donnell has 14. Fernandes, with his two goals, is up to 13 points on the season.
- The Warhawks took 14 shots to Montevallo's 11, with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal for the night.
- AUM goalkeeper
Brock Marlow faced 11 shots and needed just two saves to preserve the clean sheet for the defense, AUM's fifth shutout this year.
