MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks men's soccer team (8-3-3, GSC: 5-2-2) registered its fourth consecutive match scoring at least three goals as the Warhawks took down the Christian Brothers Buccaneers (8-4-2, GSC: 5-2-2) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Less than 10 minutes into the match, the visiting Warhawks jumped in front 1-0, as
Alan De Paula tallied his fifth goal of the season.
In the 19th minute, the Buccaneers leveled the game 1-1 thanks to a goal from Juan Minguez Malonda.
The Warhawks quickly grabbed the momentum back, however, as
Benjamin Hoffmann converted his team-leading eighth goal in the 23rd minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
AUM remained in front by the 2-1 margin into the halftime intermission and weathered eight shots from CBU in the second half to stymie the Bucs.
Second Half
The Warhawks sealed the match in the 84th minute when
Robiston Lukau scored his second goal of the campaign with an assist from
Sean Keane.
NOTABLES
- With tonight's victory, the Warhawks have officially punched their ticket to the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championship with two matches of regular season competition in front of of them.
- CBU outshot AUM 14-7, including 5-3 in shots on goal, but the Warhawk offense made the most of every chance to snag the win.
- The Bucs managed 14 shots on AUM goalkeeper Brock Marlow, who made four saves on Christian Brothers' five shots on goal.
- The Warhawks, winners of four consecutive matches, own the second-longest win streak in the league heading into the final weekend of regular season play.
- De Paula's goal marked the third consecutive contest in which he has scored.
UP NEXT
The Warhawks return home to close out the regular season. They host Mississippi College on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Delta State University on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
