Softball Splits Day Two At The Gulf Shores Invitational

AUM defeated No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne before falling to No. 25 Central Oklahoma

GULF SHORES, Ala. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (2-1) split on day two of the gulf shores invitational with a win over No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne and a loss to No. 25 Central Oklahoma.

Reese Cauley controlled the game in the circle for AUM in game one with a complete game shutout to take down No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne in her first career start. 

In game two the Warhawks got behind early after three runs were allowed to Central Oklahoma in the top of the first inning.
 
Game 1 – AUM 6, LR 0

AUM scored in the first inning for the second straight game and platted three runs as the visiting team. Lexi Love scored Chloe Baynes for the first run of the game on an RBI double. Cauley would then drive in Haley Ann Frank for the second run of the inning. Finally, Rebecca Komers would score Love on a SAC fly to center to put the Warhawks up three headed into the bottom half of the first.

AUM continued to score after another run came in, in the third inning on a RBI from Komers, her second of the game. Faith Wheat would come into score on a first and third play in the sixth inning to put AUM on top 5-0. 

In the seventh, Komers added her third RBI of the game that scored Love. Cauley, the freshman picked her first career win in the circle after she threw seven innings and allowed just one hit with eight strikeouts. 

Komers led the Warhawks at the plate once again with three RBIs. Cauley added three hits and an RBI to go along with her impressive start in the circle. As a team, AUM stole eight bases.

Game 2 – AUM 2, Central Oklahoma 4

Central Oklahoma jumped ahead early after three runs scored in the top of the first. AUM would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI by Love that scored Baynes. 

A solo homerun for UCO in the fifth would give them a 4-1 advantage. The Warhawks tried to rally in the sixth with two-runners on, but were only able to score one on a RBI from Love.

The Warhawks weren't able to overcome the early first inning deficit and dropped their first game of the season to No. 25 Central Oklahoma, 4-2.

AUM will travel to Daytona Beach for the Embry-Riddle Tournament starting on Feb. 7.
