MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 2 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (8-3, 3-1) dropped the series opener at West Alabama (11-4. 4-0) on Friday, 5-1.
West Alabama's grand slam scored four in the third inning and gave AUM their first loss of conference play.
Reese Cauley, coming off a GSC Freshman of the Week weekly award and NFCA Pitcher of the week was handed her first loss of the season after she tossed six innings and allowed two earned runs.
Offensively, AUM was led by
Rebecca Komers and
Faith Wheat with two hits apiece.
West Alabama struck first in the third inning with four runs on a grand slam from Marissa Mitchell.
AUM answered in the fourth with a solo homerun from Komers for the Warhawks sole run of the game.
AUM will return to action tomorrow in a doubleheader at West Alabama to complete the series with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
