MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 6 Auburn University at Montgomery Softball (34-10, 25-8) split the doubleheader on Saturday after the Senior Day celebration.
Montevallo snapped the Warhawks nine-game win streak and won game one of the doubleheader 3-2 on Saturday. Cauley came out for the regular season finale and series finale in the circle for the Warhawks and tossed her second complete game shutout of the weekend.
The Freshman from Elba, Ala. improved to 18-4 on the year and threw 14 scoreless innings this weekend against Montevallo.
AUM closed out the regular season with a 34-10 record overall and 25-8 Gulf South Conference record and clinched the GSC Regular Season title outright. The Warhawks will be the No. 1 overall seed in the GSC Tournament next week that starts on Wednesday, April 30.
Game 1 – AUM 2, UM 3
First pitch of the doubleheader on Saturday followed AUM's Senior Day celebration that recognized seven Warhawks.
AUM got ahead in the second inning and scored a run on a wild pitch.
Lexi Love would come in to score for the first run on Saturday and put the Warhawks up 1-0.
In the fifth inning,
Jasmine Sneed extended the lead on a solo homerun for her fourth of the season.
Avery Dickerson started in the circle for AUM and went 4.2 innings without allowing a run.
Chelisa Newsome took over from there and threw 3.1 innings and fell to 14-4 on the year.
The Falcons answered the two-run deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra-innings.
In extras, Montevallo scored a run in the top of the eighth and held the Warhawks scoreless in the bottom half to get the win.
Lexie Bullock and
Jasmine Sneed both had a pair of hits to lead the way offensively.
Game 2 – AUM 1, UM 0
In the series finale, Cauley picked up her 18
th win of the season and tossed her second complete game shutout of the weekend. She allowed four hits in her series finale outing and retired three Falcon batters.
AUM had just two hits in the final game of the regular season but was able to get the win. The Warhawks finish as the GSC Regular Season Champions and head inot the GSC Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed.
The series finale's lone run wouldn't come until the sixth inning.
Bella Santos started the inning with a single up the middle that allowed
Chloe Baynes to pick up the RBI.
Faith Wheat came in to run for Santos and was credited with the run scored.
The Warhawks will face the No. 8 seed in the GSC Tournament next week and are still awaiting their opponent.
