Wallace's Brace Leads Warhawks Past Trevecca Nazarene

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's soccer team closed out its regular-season home schedule with a 2-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Soccer Complex, powered by a two-goal performance from Chloe Wallace.

COACH ROBERTSONS' COMMENTS
"This was a great response to Wednesday's against a very good Trevecca team.

We are in a constant journey of growth this year with a hungry, young team, who are learning our process all the time. Across the piece, we showed our personality in possession and character and personality out of possession.

Our next evolution this year was to match up a performance with a result and take a big game. I was so proud of the girls for doing that today.  That character, togetherness and battle we showed for each other today will be the foundation for AUM Women's Soccer for years to come."

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half
The Warhawks came out looking to take control early, with Gabriella Benavidez recording a shot in the seventh minute. Freshman Leslie Azouer made her first save of the afternoon in the 16th minute, stopping Kayelee Maners before AUM quickly turned the momentum into goals.

Chloe Wallace opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing a pass from Courtney Pigford to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Wallace struck again in the 23rd minute, this time finding the back of the net off an assist from Eva Hendriks to double AUM's advantage, recording her third and fourth goals of the season.

The Warhawks continued to create chances, with Hendriks testing Trevecca goalkeeper Penelope Charroin in the 26th minute and again in the 33rd.

Wallace nearly completed her hat trick in the 37th minute, but her penalty kick was saved by Charroin.

Azouer made two more saves in the 30th and 39th minutes to keep Trevecca off the board, but the Trojans cut into the deficit in the 41st minute when Riley Kate Collins scored off assists from Anna Farrell and Addison Brandon. AUM held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Second Half
Trevecca Nazarene came out applying pressure after halftime, but Azouer made saves on attempts from Noelle Garcia in the 51st minute and Elsa Bengtsson in the 56th to maintain AUM's one-goal advantage.

The Warhawks began creating opportunities of their own in the second half, with Benavidez, Jenna Buice and Bella Ingstrom each recording shots between the 72nd and 75th minutes. Charroin stopped attempts from Buice and Ingstrom, while Wallace sent another shot wide in the 77th minute.

Trevecca continued to search for an equalizer late, but Azouer came up with two more saves in the final six minutes, including a stop on Bengtsson in the closing seconds. The Warhawks held on to secure the 2-1 victory in their final regular-season home game.
