COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team fell 4–0 to the Embry-Riddle Eagles women's tennis on Monday morning at the Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus. The Eagles entered the match ranked No. 6 nationally in the ITA rankings.
Doubles
Embry-Riddle secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Play opened at the No. 3 position, where Ana Clara Campigotto and Sofia Neri fell 6–1 to Mariana Cabrera and Ashley Moinard. The next result came at No. 2 doubles, where Allison Blanco and Mercedes Garcia Cid dropped a 6–3 decision.
Doubles play concluded at the No. 1 position, where Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa battled in a tightly contested match but fell in two close sets, 6–7, 5–7, to Laura Cuesta Bret and Daniela Fernandez. Embry-Riddle took a 1–0 lead heading into singles play.
Singles
Singles play opened at No. 4, where Allison Blanco fell 6–1, 6–2 to Daniela Fernandez. Shortly after, at the No. 1 position, Melissa Yakup Pour dropped a 6–1, 6–2 decision to Amelie Gindl.
The match was clinched at No. 3 singles, where Mercedes Garcia Cid fell 6–2, 6–2 to Benedetta Sensi. Matches at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 were left unfinished after the team result was decided.
