Warhawks Roll Past UAH to Complete the Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn Montgomery softball completed the weekend sweep of GSC competitor Alabama Huntsville with a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex, securing its second win over the Chargers after taking both games the day prior.

COACH WILKES LANEY'S COMMENTS
"One special thing from the weekend is that we came from behind in every game. Ultimately, we would love to be the team that scores first, but, with that not being the case this weekend our team showed great fight and resilience. We had some big time hits in clutch moments that were really special. I'm super proud of our team getting the series sweep this weekend!"

HOW IT HAPPENED
UAH and AUM battled through a scoreless first three innings, the only hit from either team was delivered by short stop Rebecca Komers. The Chargers broke through in the fourth inning, capitalizing on an AUM error as catcher Hannah Temple brought home center fielder Brittany Slaten on a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead.

The Warhawks looked to answer in the bottom half of the inning, putting runners in scoring position with Gabbi Barnowsky and Komers, but UAH worked out of the jam to hold onto the advantage.

The Warhawks found their rhythm in the sixth inning, stringing together a rally. Jasmine Sneed started things with a walk before back-to-back bunt singles from Chloe Baynes and Barnowsky loaded the bases. Komers delivered the biggest swing of the game with a three-RBI double to left center, clearing the bases and giving the Warhawks a 3-1 lead.

After advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, Komers came home on a sacrifice fly from pitch hitter Whitney Wells to extend the lead. Olivia Watkins followed with a double, and Ansley Watson added an RBI single to cap the five-run inning and push the orange and black in front, 5-1.

From there, the Warhawks' defense shut the door, holding UAH to just one unearned run on the day while closing out the 5-1 victory to complete the weekend sweep.

Notables
Rebecca Komers led the Warhawks offensively, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI and a walk, delivering the go-ahead hit in AUM's five-run sixth inning.

Gabbi Barnowsky finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, helping spark the sixth-inning rally.

Olivia Watkins recorded one of AUM's two doubles, finishing 1-for-2 and scoring a run.

Whitney Wells contributed a key sacrifice fly, adding an RBI to extend the Warhawks' lead.

In the circle, Reese Cauley was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts. Cauley improved to 16-1 on the season, continuing her standout campaign.

As a team, AUM out-hit UAH 7-3 and held the Chargers to a .317 OPS, while posting a .769 OPS offensively.

The Warhawks' pitching staff did not allow an earned run across 7.0 innings in the victory.
