Warhawks Roll Past Montevallo on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team (6-12; GSC: 3-5) closed out the regular season with a dominant 6-1 victory over Montevallo (5-9; GSC: 1-7) on Senior Day at the AUM Tennis Complex. The Warhawks recognized two seniors prior to the match, Melissa Yakup Pour and Sofia Neri, as they were honored for their contributions to the program throughout their careers. AUM then delivered a strong all-around performance, sweeping doubles play and securing five singles wins to finish the regular season on a high note. 

Doubles 
AUM came out strong in doubles, sweeping all three courts to claim the opening point. At the No. 2 position, Sofia Neri and Mercedes Garcia Cid set the tone with a commanding 6-1 victory over Montevallo's Ella De Jesus and Sophia Baillos. Shortly after, Valeria Garcia Chavez and Ana Clara Campigotto secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot.  

At the top spot, the No. 21-ranked duo of Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa capped off the sweep with a 6-4 victory over Klara Podskubkova and Claire Jaramba, completing a clean doubles performance for the Warhawks, putting them ahead 1-0. 

Singles 
In singles play, AUM continued to roll, picking up wins on five courts to seal the 6-1 victory. Sofia Neri extended the Warhawks' lead with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Claire Jaramba, followed by a strong 6-4, 6-0 performance from Mercedes Garcia Cid at No. 3 against Sophia Baillos to make it 3-0. 

Ana Clara Campigotto added another point at No. 5 with a decisive 6-4, 6-0 win, pushing the Warhawks closer to the finish line. 

At the top position, No. 12-ranked Melissa Yakup Pour battled through a three-set match against Klara Podskubkova, dropping the first set before rallying for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 comeback victory to clinch the match for AUM. 

The most tightly contested match of the day came at No. 4, where Nagisa Yonezawa outlasted Anna Nevada Henrikse in a thrilling three-set battle, 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 10-6. 

Montevallo picked up its lone point at No. 6, as Latizia Bojara defeated Valeria Garcia Chavez in straight sets.

Up Next 
The Warhawks are set to compete in the 2026 Gulf South Conference Championship next week, beginning with a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. The women earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed West Alabama on April 23 at 5 p.m. CT in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
