OXFORD, Ala. – The No. 3 seed Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks softball team (41-10, GSC: 24-10) fell to the No. 2 seed RV West Alabama Tigers (42-12-1, GSC: 24-10) by a final score of 7-3 on Thursday night at Choccolocco Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warhawks struck first in the second inning, scoring two runs on two hits and capitalizing on a pair of West Alabama miscues. The orange and black loaded the bases behind a Karris Rhine single, two fielder's choices and two Tiger errors. Jasmine Sneed then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Rhine home before Chloe Baynes followed with an RBI single to shortstop, plating Kennedy Sevick and giving AUM an early 2-0 advantage.
West Alabama responded with one run in each of the next four innings to claim a 4-2 lead after five frames. The Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their advantage to 7-2.
Gabbi Barnowsky drove in a run in the top of the seventh, but the Warhawks were unable to complete the comeback as West Alabama secured a 7-3 victory.
