Men's Soccer Adds Joshua Davies to Coaching Staff

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Auburn University at Montgomery head men's soccer coach Matthew Thorne has announced the addition of Joshua Davies to the program as an assistant coach.

"We are delighted to welcome someone of Josh's character to our program," Thorne said. "He was a proven winner as a player and has continued that success as a coach. He understands what it takes to compete and win in the GSC and throughout this region. We are excited about the impact he will have on our program."

Davies joins the Warhawks after serving as an assistant coach with South Carolina Surf SC of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) and as an academy head coach with FC Charleston. Since March 2026, Davies served as an assistant coach with South Carolina Surf SC, where he assists with organizing practices, provides individualized feedback to players, and mentors current and future collegiate student-athletes.

With FC Charleston, Davies was an academy head coach since January 2025, overseeing three teams while leading all aspects of team development, including training design, tactical planning, and player development. He helped mentor athletes in a competitive, player-first environment while preparing players for continued growth both on and off the field.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to join the AUM family and work alongside Coach Thorne and talented student-athletes," Davies said. "Being in an environment where everyone is committed to competing at a high level makes AUM a great place to help our players grow on and off the field, while also continuing to build on the program's success. I can't wait to get started with the team."

During his time in Mississippi, Davies served as a graduate assistant coach with Mississippi Christian University, formerly Mississippi College, from January-December 2024. During his time with the Choctaws, he gained valuable NCAA Division II coaching experience while assisting with daily training sessions, recruiting, travel logistics, opponent scouting, match analysis, and player development.

He helped the program continue its success following its 2023 Gulf South Conference Regular Season Championship while contributing to the preparation and development of student-athletes throughout the season.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Davies served as a youth head coach with Mississippi Rush from 2021-24, where he coached multiple age groups while providing instruction in the technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of the game.

Before transitioning into coaching, Davies enjoyed a decorated playing career at Mississippi Christian. A two-time All-American and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, he served as a three-year team captain while earning Academic Honor Roll recognition six times. He was also named the recipient of the 2024 Senior Letterman Award and was selected as a Gulf South Conference Top 10 finalist.

Davies earned a Master of Business Administration from Mississippi Christian after completing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Finance.
