MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's soccer team (1-0-1) earned its first win of the 2026 season, shutting out the Edward Waters Lady Tigers (2-1-0) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Soccer Stadium.
The victory marked the first win for head coach John Robertson at AUM, as the Warhawks picked up their first victory of the season.
COACH ROBERTSON'S COMMENTS
"We've worked hard for two weeks and learned so much about ourselves and about the game already. That growth only happens with such a new and young team when the ladies invest the time and effort into being around each other and building relationships unconditionally. It's important to start the season well, and because of all the effort these ladies put in, along with the personality and resilience they bring to the table every day, we were ready to do that today.
"There's a long way to go. We have to keep working and keep growing, but on this day, in this moment, I'm very happy that this was the group, Alex was the assistant, and these were the young ladies I got to be with for my first head coach win. Thanks to all the players, Erik Maas and his administration, and the support staff that gave me a chance and helped us even get to this stage. Up the Warhawks!"
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The Warhawks came out on the attack early, earning a pair of corner kicks in the opening 12 minutes.
Edward Waters had its first strong chance in the 16th minute, but the Lady Tigers' attempt was blocked. The Warhawks continued to create chances of their own, with freshman Eva Hendriks delivering multiple shots throughout the opening half.
The Lady Tigers were awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box, but Edward Waters was unable to capitalize on the opportunity, keeping the match scoreless.
AUM broke through shortly after, as Izzy Morley found the back of the net in the 36th minute to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Morley's goal was set up by Bella Ingstrom and Hendriks.
The Warhawks maintained their advantage through the remainder of the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Second Half
AUM continued its offensive pressure to open the second half, with Hendriks putting a shot on goal just over a minute into the period. Edward Waters looked to find a response, but Leslie Azouer and the AUM defense kept the Lady Tigers off the scoreboard. Azouer made a save in the 57th minute to preserve the Warhawks' one-goal advantage.
In the 77th minute, Chloe Wallace found the back of the net, scoring her first goal of the season, to push the Warhawks' advantage to 2-0.
AUM continued to attack, earning a corner kick in the 83rd minute before being awarded a penalty kick moments later. Hendriks stepped up and converted kick, scoing her second goal of the season, and giving the Warhawks a commanding 3-0 lead.
In the final minutes of the match, the Warhawks kept the Lady Tigers off the board to secure the 3-0 shutout and AUM's first victory of the 2026 season.
