AMERICUS, Ga. - The Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks women's soccer team (2-0-2) picked up another statement win on the road Saturday evening, defeating the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes (1-1-1) 2-1 at Hurricane Stadium to remain unbeaten through four matches.
COACH ROBERTSONS' COMMENTS
"I am really enjoying this group, and I am proud of the team for finishing our first away week on a good note. It's hard to win on the road anywhere, but I'm especially pleased for our group doing it here against a well-organized, veteran GSW side that asked serious questions of us throughout. We are learning every game and growing every week. Credit to our young women for their coachability and openness in this regard, so we will continue to take the lessons out of this match as we move into yet more exciting games next week."
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The Warhawks and Hurricanes traded chances throughout the opening half. Georgia Southwestern put pressure AUM, but freshman Leslie Azouer came up with a pair of saves to keep the GSW off the scoreboard. Eva Hendriks blocked shot in the 19th minute before Georgia Southwestern was denied by Azouer shortly after.
AUM broke through in the 28th minute when Hendriks found the back of the net on a shot to the high center of the goal, giving the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. Hendriks earned her third goal of the season, while Wallace's assist on the play marked her first of the season. Natahley Sabens nearly doubled the advantage moments later, but her shot was saved by Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper Alana Beddow.
AUM's defense held firm through the remainder of the opening 45 minutes, sending the Warhawks into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Second Half
AUM came out of the break quickly, extending its lead in the 50th minute when Hendriks found her second shot of the day on the back of the net to extend the Warhawks lead to 2-0. Gabriella Benavidez assisted on the play, marking her first assist of the season, while Hendriks' goal was her fourth of the 2026 campaign.
The Warhawks continued to hold off the Hurricanes through the majority of the second half, with Leslie Azouer making two key saves to keep Georgia Southwestern off the scoreboard. AUM nearly added to its advantage in the 76th minute, but Isabella Nieves' shot was saved by Beddow.
Georgia Southwestern cut into the deficit in the 79th minute when Ines Balaghni scored to make it a 2-1 match. The Hurricanes continued to pressure in the closing minutes, but Azouer and the Warhawks' defense held firm to secure the 2-1 road victory.
