NCAA Membership Timeline


 

The transition to NCAA Division II is a minimum three-year process which begins in the 2016-17 academic year and ends with Auburn Montgomery as an active member of NCAA Division II in the fall of 2019.

AUM will begin provisional year one in the 2016-17 academic year. The teams will compete as an independent, before joining the Gulf South Conference in 2017-18. The Warhawks will not be eligible to participate in GSC or NCAA postseason events. Upon being invited to begin provisional year two, AUM will begin to compete as a provisional member of the Gulf South Conference. The Warhawks will not be eligible to participate in GSC or NCAA postseason events. Upon being invited to the provisional membership period in the 2018-19 academic year, AUM will continue to play GSC schedules. The Warhawks will not yet be eligible to compete in GSC or NCAA postseason events. In the fall of 2019, AUM will complete the NCAA Division II membership process and become a full member of NCAA Division II. The Warhawks will then be eligible to compete in GSC and NCAA postseason events.

AUM's status in the process will be reviewed at the completion of each academic year. Approval from the NCAA is required to advance to the next phase of the process.
 
The Gulf South Conference
ABOUT THE GSC
The Gulf South Conference is a premier NCAA Division II conference located in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee. Under
the leadership of Commissioner Matt Wilson, the Gulf South Conference currently competes in 17 NCAA Division II sports and has earned 50 NCAA Division II
national championships. AUM will become a competing member beginning in the 2017-18 year.
